Hey there, HoosLeft readers. I’m incredibly proud to announce we’ve recently passed 2,000 subscribers on our mailing list and 10,000 Substack followers. Thank you for your support, and for helping us cross these important milestones. Now, let’s double that.
I’ve spoken frequently about my desire to do more of this work - writing, research, activism, and organizing - and less backbreaking physical labor. Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy the satisfaction of working with my hands and being able to see progress at the end of the day - but my heart lies here, and I feel like I can better serve you, our state, and our country better by slinging less mud at drywall and more vitriol at fascists.
We’ve got a great group of paid subscribers - and I can’t begin to thank each and every one of them enough - already dedicated to helping me grow this project, but not nearly enough to do this work to the extent I feel called. You all have helped me reach my initial goals for HoosLeft, but I’m not content there. My next goal is to earn a Substack Bestseller badge, which - yes, means more money, but also comes with a degree of clout and increased visibility from the algorithm. We’re already more than half-way there and I’m asking for you to help out by becoming a paid subscriber if you haven’t already.
And, while I’ll gladly accept your contribution without feedback, what I’m really doing here is asking for your input. Why do you subscribe? How did you find us? What would you like to see more of? Less of? Do you listen to the podcast? Read the transcript? What day(s) of the week would you like to see new content? What topics would you like to see me pursue further? What would it take for you to make the leap and become a paid subscriber? Is it members-only content? Special hangouts? More frequent publication?
I want to know the answers to all these questions, and whatever else is on your mind. And know this - one thing I will not do is paywall my content to coax you over that fence. I don’t want to coerce you out of your money, but I do want you to feel a deep, abiding sense of guilt, you dirty freeloader. I’m kidding. More than any financial incentive, I’m motivated to keep growing this project because it’s so important to have community in these uncertain times. You, dear readers, are my community and I’m continually honored and humbled that speaking my truth into the world has brought us together.
So please, if you can, consider becoming a paid subscriber today. I’m even sweetening the deal by offering 40% off annual subscriptions until the end of the month. That’s only $30!
Don’t want to commit to a full year? You can still subscribe for only $5 a month and cancel whenever you want, or you can make a one-time contribution on either of the following:
Cash App: https://cash.app/$scottrog78
Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/hoosleft
And again, I really want your feedback to help steer me in the direction you want to go. Comment below or email me at scott@hoosleft.us. Thank you all so much. Love each other!
Iʻm here for community and learning from like-minded people. Iʻm homebound and cannot go out to groups or protests anymore, and you and your guests remind me that Iʻm not alone. I read many of the transcripts and occasionally watch the podcasts. Iʻve learned a lot of stuff about state politics and also the one on public education was super enlightening. I do sometimes wish for more discussion in the comment section, but like I said, I have more time on my hands than most folks do.
I’m not surprised by the number of followers you have. You bring a wealth of knowledge and research to each and every one of your podcasts/articles. You don’t talk above our heads, which I personally appreciate. I’ve learned so much from you about politics, both in Indiana and nationwide, religion and history. I encourage everyone to keep passing the word about you and what you’re doing. Thank you for all you do.
